Description

Manuka honey comes from the bees that have feasted on the Manuka shrub, or Leptospermum Scoparium. This shrub is native to New Zealand and Australia - the honey produced by Manuka NZ is produced exclusively in New Zealand. Manuka honey has been known there for centuries and was used by the Maori people because of its unique effect.

Manuka honey is known for its high degree of bio-active properties. The substance that causes this is methylglyoxal (MGO), and although this occurs in all types of honey, the percentage in Manuka honey is by far the highest. However, the concentration differs greatly per honey production. Our MGO Manuka Honey from Manuka New Zealand is certified on the basis of the present values of Methylglyoxal (MGO) in mg/kg. The higher the value, the higher the concentration of the bio-active component Methylglyoxal (MGO).

Quality above all
Manuka New Zealand processes only monofloral manuka honey that is sourced from its own beehives or sourced from outside beekeepers across New Zealand. The honey is processed, packaged and labeled in their own processing facility. Not only do all honey barrels undergo a visual inspection on arrival, but samples are taken and the manuka honey provenance documentation is checked, as required by the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI). The stored barrels are also regularly subjected to random checks and tests to check and guarantee the quality of the honey.
