WHAT IS ACEROLA?

WHAT IS ACEROLA AND WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?

Acerola is mainly found in South America. You can find it there in Brazil, among others, but acerola is now also grown in Asia and Jamaica. The acerola tree (Malpgihia Glabra) grows 2 to 6 meters high and bears cherry-shaped fruits called acerola. Acerola fruit probably contains the highest levels of vitamin C in the world. In addition, the cherry contains a large amount of polyphenols. You can imagine why acerola fruit is so popular as a superfood. And rightly so: the enormous amount of vitamin C is a boost for your health! The acerola tree mainly grows in warm areas. For this reason, the cherries are fragile: they spoil quickly as soon as they fall to the ground. This is the reason that we cannot (yet) buy acerola cherries separately in the Netherlands.
