MANUKA MGO 550+

After years of scientific research into the 'magic ingredient' of Manuka honey, researchers have discovered that it is mainly the substance methylglyoxal (MGO). MGO forms in the honey made from the nectar of the Manuka blossom. The content of this can vary greatly and it is therefore important that each batch is tested to determine the gradation.
THE PROCESS

After extracting the honey, all barrels undergo a receiving process, which involves visual inspections, sampling and documentation checks. Everything according to the guidelines of the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI). This involves testing for, among other things, the methylglyoxal (MGO) and dihydroxyacetone (DHA) content. But also on hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), diastase, DNA analysis of manuka pollen, moisture content and microbiological parameters. Once everything is completed, the honey barrels are stored in the temperature-controlled storage of Manuka New Zealand . The stored barrels are also regularly subjected to random sampling and testing to monitor and ensure the quality of the honey.

THE MGO CONTENT

Manuka honey MGO 550+ has been tested and certified to contain AT LEAST 550mg methylglyoxal per kilogram of honey, making it the 'strongest' variant. Manuka New Zealand also sells raw manuka honey with 100mg, 250mg or 400mg of methylglyoxal per kilogram.
